The much talked about acronym of the 21st century, LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender, covers a wide range of sexual orientations among the homo-sapiens. The apparently inconspicuous concept of LGBTQ is not a recent phenomenon and has been in existence since time immemorial. The ambiguity and apprehension in accepting this community are ironic given the fact that in history LGBTQ community has been celebrated with much fervour and zeal. The concept of LGBTQ community is still frowned upon in several civilizations across the globe. The research paper deals with the nuances of the concept of the LGBTQ community and tries to put the development of the community in limelight and understand their current status quo in India by comparing it with several other regions. The paper throws light on their rights of living with dignity, equality and discusses legal principles involved and various interpretations of the same. The prudish nature of the society towards the community is highly parochial and is an impediment to the growth of the society. It is the time for us to disentangle LGBTQs and equip them with their deserving rights.
