ABSTRACT

Living life of human being has been changed today likewise there are many sectors which are connected to human being have been also changed. Higher Education System is moved toward ICT based teaching and learning and library is a part of learning system and supporting system to teaching area. To making effectiveness among both area, there are many e-resources are available and simultaneously print resources are used. But as per the changing needs of user community academic libraries are moved towards new paradigm shift for fulfillment of academic needs of their users. There are more advantages as compared to its demerits. Therefore such resources are become important today with various approaches.

INTRODUCTION

Since long ago, print based resources are popular among human being for their various purposes. From ancient era to beginning age of electronic resources the travel of traditional based reading has embedded in reading culture. Many study related to usage of print and electronic resources showed that still today user community is engaged around the traditional based reading culture and it is also observed that techno savvy users are attracting towards the electronic based multimedia resources. It means that both types of learning resources are kept in libraries to fulfill the academic need of user community. Due to the impact of information and communication technology, electronic based resources are produced in the market and these resources are flourishing over the print resources. And it is need of time to understand the changing needs and study behavior of learning community in this digital era.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF STUDY:

1. To introduce the print and electronic based resources. 2. To explain the movement of print resources towards the electronic based resources.

MEANING AND DEFINITION OF PRINT AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCES:

1. Meaning and definition of print resources: print form resources are nothing but those learning resources are published on paper medium which is called as print resources. These types of resources are known also traditional based reading resources. Print resources were more popular before the arrival of electronic resources and now it is found existence in the any type of libraries except digital library. 2. Electronic resources: Basically, electronic resources are categorized in two parts i.e. Born digitally resources and digitized resources. Electronic resources also classified as online resources and offline resources. Electronic resources are produced by means of electronic medium and published via online or offline mode and accessed by digital devices are called electronic resources. Today, e-resources have generated in various form such as e-books, e-journals, e-databases, multimedia mode and so on. Print based resources have many characteristics which is more beneficial over electronic resources. These are as following. 1. Traditional based print resources are more easily handle for reading anywhere and anyplace. 2. It could not problem to eyes while reading the books or any type of learning material in print medium. 3. It is easy to reader community for doing short notes while doing the study. 4. These resources are independent nature and free from dependency on technological devices. 5. It gives factual sense of reading as compared to virtual environment based resources. 6. It will stay and preserver long term there is no fear about corrupt or damage like electronic book. 7. Each and every book which is purchased by library has to entry in accession register. This experience beneficial to librarian for knowing and giving proper reference service to their patrons due practical work experience of each and every title of book. This situation could not realize in electronic environment.

FEATURE OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCES:

There are number of benefits of electronic resources rather than demerits. These features are explained as per following. 1. Electronic resources are easily handled and access as per wish of patron there is no need to implement the static rule of traditional library with time bound period. 2. E-resources can make available with 24*7 at global corner. 3. User can search, download and share to each other with ease. 4. Quick and timely literature availability among user community. 5. It can be enjoyed at anytime, anywhere and anyplace with the help of network connectivity and digital devices. resources. 7. It is easy possible to libraries to overcome on financial constraints. Such types of resources are made available large number resources in minimum cost as compare to print resources. 8. Libraries can reach at global community place due to networking assistance to electronic resources. 9. Electronic resources remove consuming time which has to spend with print based resources about subscription, reminding and so on. 10. It also helps in many housekeeping operation of traditional based libraries and rescue from it. 11. It is easy to publish and circulate any type of resource as early as possible rather than print resources. 12. E-resources can be directly purchase or subscribe from publication industry or vendors and get service quickly. 13. Offline based resources doesn‘t require of internet facility. It can be viewed and read without this facility. 14. As compare to print resources, e-resources are more beneficial to user community, library organization and publication industries with varied ways.

Library moved toward electronic counterpart from print source:

ICT means Information and Communication Technology has changed entire traditional nature into modern ways in each and sector of education system. Library is soul part of any education system and it has adopted new trend of digital environment. Today, an academic library has established as hybrid nature and provides library facilities and services to their academic community from their desktop. Without learning resources could not imagine of library. Since primitive era, there were totally print based and manuscript form resources within library. But now, resources nature has changed into electronic form and arrival as e-book, e-journal, e-database and audio-video based multimedia resources. This is the journey from traditional look of library resources to electronic library resources. Due to many reason academic libraries have

techno savvy. They give preference to internet based resources which are easily available to their hand or desktop. This changing academic need of user has impacted on traditional libraries and hence library organizations have moved towards electronic based library.

CONCLUSION:

Academic libraries appear today as new look which connected to digital environment. Information and communication technology has contributed its new feature for establishment of electronic based library. Actually, it is need of time in this information age era to fulfill the different type of academic need of patrons with least time. And hence, electronic resources are becoming popular among techno savvy user community.
