ABSTRACT

The purpose of this descriptive comparative study was to compare the shooting accuracy demonstrated in the matches played at inter collegiate and inter zonal competition held in Pune city in the year 2019-20. A total of 6 matches from inter college tournament and 6 matches from inter zonal tournament played at quarter final, semi-final and final levels were consider to be sample for the study. Shooting accuracy was measured based on the conversion rates of 1 pointer, 2 pointer and 3 pointer field goals. Statistical analysis of the collected data was done based on frequency and percentage of successful conversions. The conversion percentages of the winning team’s 1 pointer successful conversion rate at inter collegiate and zonal level is 36.48 and 48.14 respectively. The 2 pointer successful conversion rate at inter collegiate and zonal level is 50.16 and 53.1 respectively. The 3 pointer successful conversion rate at the inter-collegiate and zonal level is 25.15 and 22.41 respectively. The losing team 1 pointer successful conversion rate by 4.67 at Zonal level competition. The 2 pointer and 3 pointer conversion successful rates decreased by 4.49 and 4.62 respectively at the zonal level. This study concludes that, the inter zonal level shooting accuracy is better than inter collegiate level matches. It was further concluded that the shooting accuracy of winning team is better than losing team.

INTRODUCTION

In Basketball, ball throwing accuracy plays very important role on playing situation and match result. Shooting is the most important skill in basketball game. The fundamental skills of passing, dribbling, defense, and rebound may enable you to get a high percentage successful shot, but you must still be able to make the shot. A large part of shooting is mental attitude. In addition to shooting skill, you must have confidence in your shooting skill as well. The inventor of the mental and mechanical aspects of shooting fosters shooting success in throwing, for example, some of the important task constraints may be the size and mass of the ball, the minimum velocity needed to project the ball over the rim of the basket, and the distance and angle of the shot (Brancazio, 1981).In explaining differences in throwing for distance, Wild (1938) noted that individual differences in the execution of the throwing motion must be taken in consideration. Gutteridge (1939) suggested that environment plays a major role in the development of throwing skill. In Basketball, ball shooting accuracy may differ according to level of player and match and stages of match in the competition between inter

MATERIAL AND METHOD

The researcher used the descriptive comparative method to describe the performance of shooting accuracy in inter collegiate and inter zonal players.

SUBJECTS

All the teams that reached the quarter finals, semifinals and the final of the inter collegiate and inter zonal basketball competition held in Aurangabad city were selected as sample for the study.

SELECTION OF VARIABLE

This procedure allowed for the assessment of the variable shooting accuracy was familiarization with accurate testing procedures in the match situation. the correspondent mean values were considered for statistical analysis.

TOOLS FOR DATA COLLECTION

The data was collected by the researcher designed observation tool (shooting Accuracy attempting score sheet).

PROCEDURE OF THE STUDY

The researcher has taken necessary permission from organizers regarding data collection. The researcher developed checklist of the basketball shooting accuracy. There are three main columns in the which shows chest number of the players and from where he has taken an attempt (1 point, 2 point,3 point) last column are attempt for scoring (successful/unsuccessful), after watching the matches of inter collegiate as well as inter zonal team‘s matches. From the collected data researcher had checked the overall shooting accuracy of the Inter collegiate and Inter zone basketball teams as well as researcher had get the conversion percentage of the particular the teams. From the collected data researcher had calculated the number of attempts taken by the teams and number of baskets made by the teams.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

Statistical analysis followed the most important descriptive statistics, such as frequency count and percentage was used to determine differences between groups. data that was collected at the inter collegiate and inter zone competition. The collected data was analyzed using frequency tables and percentage.

DISCUSSION

From the findings the earliest publication in sport is by (Fullerton 1912), who explored the combinations of baseball players batting, pitching, fielding, and the probabilities of success. (Marques 1990) developed national system that related game performance indicators with the success of basketball teams. Marques evaluated teams without success, finding differences in the percentage of offensive and defensive rebounds and in second shots. He reported that winning teams shots more often, are more efficient in shooting, fast break more often, and get more offensive and defensive rebounds. Second, marques analysed equilibrate games (two point or less difference in final score), normal games for significant differences in the frequency of performance indicators. The researcher has done notation analysis of the players shoots free shots 1 pointer, 2 point, 3 point is to recorded converted and missed shots and get percentage between missed shots and converted.
