Filamentous microorganisms were shown to increase DSVI and decrease sludge compaction. 5. Presence of nocardioform bacteria was shown to reduce solids content of the float layer in batch flotation analyses. 6. Entrained air caused by the presence of nocardioform bacteria was shown to produce a stable float layer on gravity settled sludge and produce scum layer in laboratory-centrifuged sludge. 7. Elevated levels of EPS were shown to reduce sludge filterability measured by TTF.
