Abstract

Mental health and holistic wellbeing among university students have emerged as urgent priorities within global higher education policy frameworks. This paper examines the intersection of computer science, policy research, and student wellness, arguing that technology-driven approaches—including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data analytics—hold significant promise for designing, implementing, and evaluating mental health interventions in academic institutions. Drawing on contemporary policy literature and empirical research, we critically analyze how digital tools can complement institutional well-being strategies while also surfacing ethical concerns around data privacy, algorithmic bias, and equitable access. We propose a multi-layered framework integrating computational methods with human-centred policy design, offering actionable recommendations for universities and policymakers seeking to embed mental health as a structural dimension of higher education governance.
