Mewat is known for the area ‘where Meos’ lives but, historically they shared this region with the Khanzadas and other Muslim and Hindu social groups. Khanzadas were the ruling class of Mewat region and they played an important role in the political affairs of Delhi Sultanate and early Mughal Empire. This paper will give an ethno-historical outline of Khanzadas of Mewat particularly about their origin, conversion, and state formation in Mewat region and their active role in Delhi politics. This paper will further explain why their social, economic and political significance decline after 16th century. This paper will also trace their changing relationship with Meos of Mewat.Published
