Abstract

Solid waste management is one among the basic essentialservices provided by municipal authorities in the country to keep Green citiesclean. Waste is littered all over leading to insanitary living conditions.Municipal laws governing the Green cities have adequate provisions to dealeffectively with the ever-growing solid waste management in Green city. In thepresent study, an attempt has been made to provide a comprehensive review ofthe characteristics, generation, collection and transportation, disposal andtreatment technologies of SWM practiced in Green cities India. The studypertaining to SWM for Indian Green cities has been carried out to evaluate thecurrent status and identify the major problems. Various adopted treatmenttechnologies for SWM are critically reviewed, along with their advantages andlimitations. The study is concluded with a few fruitful suggestions, which maybe beneficial to encourage the competent authorities/ researchers to worktowards further improvement of the present system.
