Abstract
Cloud computing is an “evolving paradigm” that has redefined the wayInformation Technology based services can be offered. It has changed the modelof storing and managing data for scalable, real time, internet basedapplications and resources satisfying end users’ needs. More and more remotehost machines are built for cloud services causing more power dissipation andenergy consumption. Cloud computing is a highly scalable and cost-effective infrastructurefor running HPC, enterprise and Web applications. However, the growing demandof Cloud infrastructure has drastically increased the energy consumption ofdata centers, which has become a critical issue. Data centers hosting cloudcomputing applications consume huge amounts of energy, contributing to highoperational costs and carbon footprints to the environment. With energyshortages and global climate change leading our concerns these days, the powerconsumption of data centers has become a key issue. Therefore, we need greencloud computing solutions that can not only save energy, but also reduceoperational costs.
