Abstract

Inthe 1920s Eddington formulated the hypothesis that fusion reactions betweenlight elements are the energy source of the stars- a proposition that may be considered as thebirth of the field of nuclear astrophysics [1]. It was accompanied by hispioneering work on stellar structure andradiation pressure, the relation between stellar mass andluminosity, and many other astrophysical topics.
