Abstract

In recent years, digital transformation (DT) has emerged as a key factor in driving economic growth and competitiveness, especially for SMEs in developing economies. This study delves into the complex effects of digital transformation on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), examining how it affects operational efficiency, customer engagement, innovation, market access, and productivity. Applying a thorough literature review, empirical findings, and case studies from Brazil, India, and Nigeria, this study determines the critical components that contribute to or detract from effective digital adoption. Despite digital transformation's obvious benefits to business performance and strategic agility, the findings reveal that restrictions on infrastructure, deficiencies in digital literacy, and a lack of support from governments often impede its full implementation. The study concludes with policy recommendations to help developing nations' small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) thrive in the digital marketplace.
