Abstract

System programming is the activityof computer programming systemsoftware. The primary distinguishing characteristic of systems programmingwhen compared to application programming is that application programming aims to producesoftware which provides services to the user e.g. wordprocessor, whereas systems programming aims to produce software whichprovides services to the computerhardware e.g. disk defragmenter. It requires a greater degree of hardwareawareness.
