Challenges and Perspectives in Implementing Operations Research in the Air Transport Industry

Abstract

This paper displays an outline of a few critical regions of operationsresearch applications circulating everywhere transport industry. Particularzones secured are: the different phases of aircraft and crew schedule planning;revenue management, including overbooking and leg based furthermorenetwork-based seat stock management; and the planning and operations of flyinginfrastructure (airports and air traffic management). For each of these zones,the paper gives a verifiable point of view on OR commitments, and a shortoutline of the state of the workmanship. It likewise distinguishes a portion ofthe fundamental difficulties for future research.
