Abstract
In matrix theory, we come across many special types of matrices and one among them is idempotent matrix, which plays an important role in functional analysis especially spectral theory of transformations and projections. Idempotent matrices are closely associated with the theory of generalized inverses. Benjamin Peirce was an American mathematician who introduced the term, idempotent first ever in 1870.
