Abstract

About13 major ports and 185 intermediate (minor) ports are located in about 9Maritime States in India. The satellite port of Chennai known as Ennore is beencorporatized and assimilated in 1999 under the Companies Act, 1956. Thegovernment of India owns about 2/3 of its shares while rest id being owned bythe Chennai port trust. Port Blair and Nicobar Islands are trust ports and aregoverned under Major Port Trust 1963 under the Ministry of Shipping
