Abstract

About 85 of India's agricultural land is devoted to the rice (Oryza sativa L.)-wheat (Triticumaestivum L. emend Fiori and Paol) cropping sequence (RWCS), making it the greatest agriculturalproduction system in the world (IGPs). The RWCS have revealed signs of soil nutrient depletion andimbalances, poor fertiliser use efficiency, a general decline in soil organic matter, and stagnant yields asa consequence of decades of continuous cropping under conventional techniques.
